Liverpool have set an unwanted club record in Champions League competition with a 2-0 defeat away at Red Star Belgrade.
The Reds have continued to enjoy success in Europe, with Jurgen Klopp guiding them to another major final last season.
Real Madrid were, however, to prove too strong in Kiev as the long wait for major silverware on Merseyside was stretched to six years.
That outing does not go down as an away game for Liverpool, but it did offer another indication of their recent continental struggles outside of Anfield.
Home soil remains a fortress for the Reds, but they have picked up an unfortunate bout of travel sickness.
Klopp saw his side suffer a 4-2 defeat at Roma in the second leg of a nervy semi-final clash in 2017-18, before seeing Liverpool go down 1-0 to Napoli in their first road test this term.
They have now slipped to another reversal in Serbia and suffered three successive away defeats in the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Liverpool’s last European victory away from home came against Manchester City in a quarter-final tie on April 10 at the Etihad Stadium.
They also prevailed on the road at the last-16 stage, with Porto crushed 5-0.
Klopp needs his side to rediscover that spark, but things are not about to get any easier.
The Reds’ next Champions League fixture is also set to take them a long way from Anfield, with a trip to Paris Saint-Germain set to be taken in on November 28.
They may need to take something from that clash after taking only six points from four games so far.
