The Bundesliga giants are said to have parted with a nine-figure fee when luring the England international striker away from Tottenham in the summer of 2023. They have <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/personal-best-harry-kane-half-century-bayern-munich-striker-psg-superstar-kylian-mbappe/blte0dd91fd6a636e79" target="_blank">seen him hit the 40-goal mark in his debut campaign</a> at the Allianz Arena, but major silverware has continued to fall out of reach and there has been <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-united-destination-harry-kane-premier-league-return-bayern-munich-tottenham-transfer-ruled-out/blt3cbe7a888d27c4e3" target="_blank">talk of a hasty return to the Premier League</a> being beaten.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ex-Bayern star Hamann, speaking in association with Freebets.com, has told GOAL when asked about the possibility of Kane cutting a European adventure short after just 12 months: “He has got a contract. He is a very loyal guy, from what I hear. Is he happy here? I don’t know. Obviously he came here to win trophies, he’s got a chance to win the big one [the Champions League], but there is no guarantee that he does that. I’d say it’s unlikely. I don’t think the club has got any interest to sell him. Whether he has interest to go back, I’m not sure. I wouldn't think so, but strange things happen in football. The family is over now. Is he settled? I can’t answer that question. The question is, is he happy? Is he happy with how things are going? They haven’t got a manager for next season, they still don’t know who that will be. Does a new manager want somebody else up top, which is a possibility? I’d say at the moment there is no hint of him going, but then again things can change. The bottom line is whether he’s happy. I think he’d be a lot happier if they were to win the Champions League!”

WHAT HAMANN SAID

Kane is tied to a contract until 2027, but Bayern are <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/everyone-laughing-england-harry-kane-selfish-robert-lewandowski-record-bayern-munich-trophy-bid/blt802d3f428a3edcce" target="_blank">no longer a guarantee of trophy triumphs </a>and Hamann added on <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/explained-why-zinedine-zidane-wont-take-charge-harry-kane-bayern-munich-club-legend-argentina-tipped-succeed-thomas-tuchel/blt23925602c681adb2" target="_blank">the challenges that a superstar frontman faces</a>: “Next year, if Leverkusen stays together, I think they will probably go into the season as favourites. Bayern Munich, you don’t know who is going to leave and they haven’t even got a manager yet. I think Leverkusen will probably be favourites - for the first time in about 50 years that Bayern Munich isn’t favourite. There are no guarantees that he is going to win the league next year. He’s got to make a decision. I don’t think the club has got any interest whatsoever in selling him. If he were to go, it would take a lot of money. I don’t know who has interest – Manchester United have been mentioned, Chelsea could do with a forward as well. There is also the clause talk that he could go back to Spurs. This is something that could gather pace over the next weeks. There is no hint at the moment but there a lot of issues because Bayern don’t have a manager, you don’t know what will happen in the semis against Real, so you’ve got to keep an eye on it. He’s got to do what’s right. He’s got a contract at Munich so they might say ‘we’re not going to sell, you can stay here’. Or Munich say ‘if somebody gives us the transfer fee plus 20, 30 or 40 million then we might think about it’, then it’s a different story. For him to go to Munich and come back after one season, I think he is too big and done too much for the game in his career to be bothered about that.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/warming-harry-kane-chelsea-ex-premier-league-striker-secretly-wants-come-home-transfer-claim-bayern-munich-trophy/blt8e96c8ff7ce7c780" target="_blank">Chelsea have spent heavily across recent transfer windows</a> and pressed further on the kind of figure that may lead Bayern to consider a sale, Hamann added: “They paid 100m, maybe a little bit more, so I don’t think they’ve got any interest. It might only interest Bayern Munich if they make a healthy profit on the player. I can’t see it. He is loved here by the fans - I don’t know how many shirts he sold - and it probably won’t go down too well with the fans if he were to leave after one season.”

It’s highly unlikely that he doesn’t win anything. But Leverkusen are a player now. Next season they have got a really good chance to defend their title. Champions League, you never know what’s going to happen and you need a bit of luck. And the German Cup is the most obvious one, but in a one-off game anything is possible. The longer he sticks around, the more likely he is to win a trophy. But I don’t think there are any guarantees now that, for the first time in about 10 or 15 years, there is a team that competes with Bayern Munich, or is probably better than Bayern Munich.”

Kane has offered no indication that he is looking for a way out of Bayern, with his <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/harry-kane-champions-league-war-warning-england-jude-bellingham-bayern-munich-semi-final-real-madrid/blte74d39fdcf4bb2fb" target="_blank">focus locked on trying to land a coveted Champions League crown</a> in 2024. The likes of Chelsea and United would <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/miserable-souls-harry-kane-backed-silence-critics-bayern-transfer-shunning-premier-league-return-breaking-trophy-duck/bltdf9fe3142cd67c4d" target="_blank">struggle to match his ambition on the silverware front</a> at present, which suggests that a return to England is unlikely at this stage.
