Henderson made the move from Liverpool to Al-Ettifaq in the summer, linking up with former Reds team-mate Steven Gerrard, who is the Saudi club's manager. However, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/jordan-henderson-defends-decision-leave-liverpool-al-ettifaq-really-hurt-by-criticism/blt8653ecb3b5d2dfba" target="_blank">Henderson has previously claimed that he did not move for the money</a>, something he has now appeared to attempt to correct.

WHAT HAPPENED?

<a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/jordan-henderson-booed-by-england-fans-liverpool-saudi-arabia-ettifaq/bltdea5dfc2055c3df8" target="_blank">The midfielder was booed off by England fans when he was substituted against Australia last week</a>, seemingly in protest at his decision to make the move to a country where being gay is illegal, given his previous support for the LGBTQIA+ community. He spoke out on the move in an interview with <a href="https://twitter.com/C4Sport/status/1714349235116679421?s=20" target="_blank">Channel 4</a>, before England played Italy, and he has attempted to clarify his previous comments in <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/jordan-henderson-defends-decision-leave-liverpool-al-ettifaq-really-hurt-by-criticism/blt8653ecb3b5d2dfba" target="_blank">a wide-ranging interview in September</a>, saying money was not the "sole reason" he moved - seemingly admitting that it did play a role.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Henderson told Channel 4 when asked if he understood why people were disappointed in him: "Yeah, definitely, I've said that before. I tried a little bit, I had an interview a few months ago and maybe some of the stuff I said didn't come out in the way that I thought I said it. An example of that would probably be in terms of when I said I didn't go out there solely for the money, I think that's a big difference. It's not a sole reason, rather than saying I didn't go out there for the money."Henderson was also asked if he knew why people may not see him as a role model anymore, and he replied: "Yeah in certain areas, if that's what people want to think, and have a perception of that, then that's fine. I look at it in a different way, as I said before, I think having someone like myself, with the values that I have, in Saudi Arabia is only a good thing. I think before I went to Saudi, people knew the groups I'd supported and helped in the past, and not once has it ever been mentioned about when I'm going there, that I can't do this or can't do that. I think they know what my values are, they've accepted that, and all they ask in return is that I respect their values, religion, culture as well, which I've done."

WHAT THEY SAID

It seems Henderson has no plans on apologising or calling time on his move to Saudi Arabia. He will expect to be back in action for his club at the weekend.
