The Spaniard was PSG's leader in defence last season as they kept 19 clean sheets to win a maiden league title. Before switching to Barcelona, she also helped them reach the last four in Europe, where they'd narrowly fall short against the Catalans.

The Nigeria international scored 18 goals in 18 league starts last season as Barcelona won the treble. She also netted a further four in the Women's Champions League, including a crucial pair in the quarter-final win over Manchester City.

The Dutch winger scored 20 goals in all competitions for Barcelona as they won the treble, shining in the latter stages of the Women's Champions League in particular. She then scored four goals in as many games at the Olympics for her country.

One of the most exciting young talents in Germany, the 21-year-old scored 10 goals in 20 games as Bayern Munich won their first title since 2016. She also scored four times in the Women's Champions League, as the club reached the last four.

Sydney Lohmann - Midfielder, Bayern Munich and Germany

The Norwegian continues to live up to her reputation as an assist machine, providing 19 in the league for Barcelona last season, scoring eight goals. Three goals and five assists from the world-class winger were vital in their European triumph too.

Caroline Graham Hansen - Forward, Barcelona and Norway

Barcelona's attack received most of the praise in their treble-winning season, but their star centre-back was also incredible. The Spain international was a rock as they conceded just 15 times in 34 league games, even netting a few goals herself.

Mapi Leon - Defender, Barcelona and Spain

Though she ended the Olympic Games with a silver medal around her neck rather than the gold one she would've wanted, the creative midfielder was one of the players of the tournament, shining for Sweden after a 16-goal campaign for Real Madrid.

Kosovare Asllani - Midfielder, Real Madrid and Sweden

Last season saw the Dutch star become the Women's Super League's all-time top goalscorer, aged 24. She netted 18 goals in 22 games by the end of the campaign, then shattered records at the Olympics, scoring an incredible 10 times in four matches.

Vivianne Miedema - Forward, Arsenal and the Netherlands

The 27-year-old was in top form as Bayern Munich claimed their first Frauen-Bundesliga title in five years, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 20 games. She was also a crucial cog in the club's run to the semi-finals in Europe.

Lina Magull - Midfielder, Bayern Munich and Germany

The Dane didn't have as prolific a season as usual as she adapted to a new role at Chelsea, but she still scored 16 times and had huge influence as the Blues won the Women's Super League, the Continental Cup and reached their first European final.

Pernille Harder - Forward, Chelsea and Denmark

The Norwegian has been quietly establishing herself as one of the best deep-lying midfielders in the game, a feat which can't be measured in numbers, but became evident to Barcelona, who secured her signature after a DFB-Pokal triumph with Wolfsburg.

Ingrid Engen - Midfielder, Barcelona and Norway

With 16 goals and 11 assists, the forward was the standout performer as Chelsea won the Women's Super League last season. She was also involved in all six goals in the Continental Cup final and was joint topscorer in Europe on their run to the final.

Fran Kirby - Forward, Chelsea and England/Team GB

For the fifth time, and third year in a row, the forward was the top scorer in Spain again this year, with 31 goals in 26 league games. She also sat at the top of those charts in Europe as Barcelona won the treble, netting six times in seven outings.

Jennifer Hermoso - Forward, Barcelona and Spain

Ranking second in the Frauen-Bundesliga for assists last season, the 27-year-old also scored six goals as Bayern Munich won their first title in five years. That creative influence was important as Bayern reached the last four in Europe, too.

Linda Dallmann - Midfielder, Bayern Munich and Germany

The 23-year-old was exceptional as Barcelona won the treble. As well as scoring eight league goals, despite her more reserved midfield role, she filled in brilliantly as a centre-back when needed, including in the Women's Champions League final.

Patri Guijarro - Midfielder, Barcelona and Spain

Known as one of the most talented young midfielders in the world for some time, the 23-year-old removed the need for 'young' in that sentence as Barcelona won the treble, named Player of the Match in the Women's Champions League final.

Aitana Bonmati - Midfielder, Barcelona and Spain

One of the most gifted players in the Women's Super League, the midfielder was key as Chelsea won the league, the Continental Cup and reached the Women's Champions League final, her crucial goal in the semi-final win over Bayern Munich a highlight.

Ji So-yun - Midfielder, Chelsea and South Korea

Voted into the French league's team of the season after PSG's title triumph, the defender went to the Olympics having also helped her club reach the semi-finals in Europe. In Japan, she continued an incredible year, starring as Canada won gold.

Ashley Lawrence - Defender, PSG and Canada

The Chelsea captain led her team to the Women's Super League title, a Continental Cup triumph and the Women's Champions League final this year, then flew to Japan and picked up an Olympic silver medal with Sweden, scoring in the quarter-finals.

Magdalena Eriksson - Defender, Chelsea and Sweden

The Aussie netted 21 goals as Chelsea won the league, scored a hat-trick in the Continental Cup final and three times on the way to a Women's Champions League final. Then, she captained her country to the Olympic semi-finals, scoring four times.

Sam Kerr - Forward, Chelsea and Australia

The Spaniard rarely gets the plaudits she should, which is a shame because there are few more intelligent footballers on the planet. As Barcelona won it all, she scored 17 times - numbers which are good, but will never fully illustrate her influence.

Mariona Caldentey - Forward, Barcelona and Spain

The Japan star's quality can't be measured in numbers but, whether playing as a centre-back or a defensive midfielder, she was in fine form again last season for Lyon, before switching to Bayern Munich and captaining her country at a home Olympics.

Saki Kumagai - Defender, Bayern Munich and Japan

The 22-year-old racked up 21 goals and eight assists to fire PSG to their first-ever league title. The most crucial of those strikes came in a 1-0 win over holders Lyon. She also netted four as the Parisians reached the semi-finals in Europe.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto - Forward, PSG and France

The Spaniard was unstoppable in front of goal last season, scoring 30 goals in 34 league games to fire Levante into the Women's Champions League places, as well as helping them to the Spanish Super Cup final, before a summer move to Real Madrid.

Esther Gonzalez - Forward, Real Madrid and Spain

The full-back's fine form was huge for club and country this year. She provided five assists as Bayern Munich won their first league title in five years, helped them to the semi-finals in Europe and won an Olympic silver medal with Sweden.

Hanna Glas - Defender, Bayern Munich and Sweden

In a French league stacked with attacking talent at PSG and Lyon, it was the Bordeaux striker who emerged with the Golden Boot last season after 22 goals in 20 games. That helped fire the club into the Women's Champions League for the first time too.

Khadija Shaw - Forward, Manchester City and Jamaica

No one provided more Frauen-Bundesliga assists than the German last season, who continued her wonderful, and often underrated, form at Wolfsburg as they won the DFB-Pokal for the seventh successive year, despite a difficult campaign.

Svenja Huth - Forward, Wolfsburg and Germany

After a tough illness over the winter period, the forward was involved in four goals in her final three Manchester United games, plus a further nine goals in 10 games for the U.S. heading into the Olympics, where she’d win a bronze medal.

Christen Press - Forward, Angel City and USA

The Italian's trophy cabinet had plenty of new additions last season. After scoring 22 goals in 21 games to fire Juventus to a perfect, unbeaten title win, she picked up the Golden Boot as well as awards for Serie A's best forward and best player.

Cristiana Girelli - Forward, Juventus and Italy

Only three players scored more Women's Super League goals last season than the Australian, who netted 10 times and racked up five assists in 21 games for an injury-hit Arsenal. She then helped her country reach the last four of the Olympics.

Caitlin Foord - Forward, Arsenal and Australia

The goalkeeper was crucial in a pair of firsts this year. She kept 19 clean sheets in 22 games as PSG won their first-ever league title, two of them against holders Lyon, and she also helped her country reach the Olympics for the first time.

Christiane Endler - Goalkeeper, Lyon and Chile

Back in England after a trophy-laden spell with Lyon, the full-back continued her relentless winning of silverware with Manchester City as she picked up the Women's FA Cup. City did fall just short in the title race, but Bronze starred all the same.

Lucy Bronze - Defender, Manchester City and England/Team GB

The forward's goals have been huge in the North Carolina Courage staying in the hunt for an NWSL Championship. She came up big at the Olympics too, where the U.S. won bronze, with a goal and an assist in the quarter-final win over the Netherlands.

Lynn Williams - Forward, North Carolina Courage and USA

Despite 2020-21 being a difficult campaign for Lyon, their captain was still voted into the French league's team of the season, her knack for goals making her one of just 11 players in the league to hit double figures. Not bad for a centre-back.

Wendie Renard - Defender, Lyon and France

The 29-year-old continues to be a joy to watch, named the Most Valuable Player of the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup. She carried that form into the regular season and scored twice at the Olympics as she gets closer to that half century of goals for Brazil.

Debinha - Forward, North Carolina Courage and Brazil

Still just 21 years old, the Australia full-back defied her age this summer with an excellent Olympics, underlining her importance in a star-studded team. Her influence is growing at Lyon too, where she won plenty of praise in her first full season.

Ellie Carpenter - Defender, Lyon and Australia

There are two separate award ceremonies at the end of the season in France. This year, both Player of the Year accolades went to Diani. The forward scored 13 times and provided nine assists in just 19 league games as PSG won their first title.

Kadidiatou Diani - Forward, PSG and France

One of the star performers at the Olympic Games as Sweden won a silver medal, the 36-year-old's influence as the calming defensive midfielder is just as great for her club, with her captaining them into a strong position to retain their league title.

Caroline Seger - Midfielder, Rosengard and Sweden

After helping Portland win the NWSL Challenge Cup, scoring a crucial penalty in the final's shootout, the centre-back flew to Japan to win a bronze medal, then returned home to continue the Thorns' strong charge towards the NWSL Championship.

Becky Sauerbrunn - Defender, Portland Thorns and USA

One of the players of last season in France as PSG won their first league title, the 24-year-old was also excellent as the Parisians reached the semi-finals of the Women's Champions League, scoring in the quarter-final win over arch-rivals Lyon.

Grace Geyoro - Midfielder, PSG and France

After topping the assist charts in France last season, with 15 in 22 games, the generational German playmaker swapped Lyon for OL Reign. She has quickly set about having an influence in the U.S. too, as the club push for the NWSL Championship.

Dzsenifer Marozsan - Midfielder, OL Reign and Germany

Of the USWNT stars to move to the Women's Super League last year, the midfielder had the biggest impact, the highlight being a goal at Wembley as Manchester City won the FA Cup. She then won an Olympic bronze medal with her country in the summer.

Sam Mewis - Midfielder, North Carolina Courage and USA

Netting seven goals in just 14 league starts for Lyon last season, the forward moved away from France for the first time this summer, switching to the U.S. and OL Reign. There, she's continued her great form as the club target an NWSL Championship.

Eugenie Le Sommer - Forward, OL Reign and France

After her solid defensive performances helped Bordeaux finish in the Women's Champions League spots for the first time, the 25-year-old was one of the players of the tournament at the Olympics Games with more of the same, as Canada won gold.

Vanessa Gilles - Defender, Bordeaux and Canada

The 29-year-old helped Portland win the NWSL Challenge Cup while adapting to a new midfield role, scoring her penalty in the final's shootout, then picked up an Olympic bronze medal as a left-back, despite a difficult summer for the United States.

There are a lot of exciting talents at PSG - and the 21-year-old is one of them. Baltimore racked up seven goals and 11 assists as the French giants won their first-ever women's title, while her role in their semi-final run in Europe was just as big.

Sandy Baltimore - Forward, PSG and France

2021 has been all about goals for Sweden's 25-year-old striker. After scoring 11 in 12 league games before the Olympics for Hacken, she scored five in five in Japan, won a silver medal and has only continued that fine form since returning home.

Stina Blackstenius - Forward, BK Hacken and Sweden

Last season's battle for the Frauen-Bundesliga title was tight between Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg but the Golden Boot race was not, with Hoffenheim's Austrian goal machine scoring 23 times in 22 games to secure European football for the club.
