The defeat meant that Ten Hag's side had only won four matches in their first 14 games of the season. He had been linked with a departure in the summer but was kept on by INEOS following the club's FA Cup victory. However, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/ruben-amorim-explains-why-he-wants-man-utd-move-coach-confirms-imminent-sporting-cp-exit/blt8afeb3b4c130666d" target="_blank">United are now set to sign Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim</a> to serve as the Dutchman's replacement.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14024597/What-Erik-ten-Hag-real-reasons-lost-Man-United-dressing-room-reveals-SAMI-MOKBEL.html" target="_blank"><em>Daily Mail</em></a>  now report that Ten Hag is 'expected to retreat to his Austrian hideaway' in the coming few days as he looks to recuperate after what was a gruesome few months to start the season. As he had signed a contract extension until 2026 over the summer, Ten Hag is expected to land around £15 million ($19m) in compensation.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The report from the <em>Daily Mail</em> has suggested that despite his largely poor spell with United, Ten Hag is still seen as a 'strong' figure in Germany due to his successful two-year stint in the Bayern Munich setup. As such, a move to the Bundesliga could be on the cards for the Dutchman in the future.</p>
