After several years of pursuing France international Mbappe, the World Cup winner is reported to have green-lighted a switch to Madrid once he reaches the end of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

WHAT HAPPENED?

It may well be that he is joined in Madrid by Bayern Munich defender Davies, with <a href="https://theathletic.com/5294621/2024/02/26/alphonso-davies-real-madrid-transfer/?source=emp_shared_article " target="_blank">The Athletic</a> claiming that another deal is being lined up there. The flying Canadian left-back is said to have <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/bayern-munich-canada-alphonso-davies-breaks-silence-real-madrid-transfer-talk-incredible-team-admssion/blt9849b78dd9e961b8" target="_blank">given his word to Real that he will join them at some stage</a> in the near future.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Los Blancos have <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/real-madrid-tell-alphonso-davies-not-extend-contract-bayern-munich-formal-transfer-offer-canadian-full-back/bltf10efe61fc37d08f" target="_blank">convinced Davies not to extend his current contract in Germany</a>, which runs until 2025, meaning that Bayern may have to cash in at the next opportunity. Real are willing to wait a further 12 months and take the 23-year-old when he hits free agency if <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/bayern-alphonso-davies-replacement-real-madrid-target-contract-extension/blta0f6cab6cc9777f7" target="_blank">Bundesliga giants at the Allianz Arena refuse to lower their asking price</a> in the next transfer window.

Barcelona, as well as a number of clubs in England, have been monitoring Davies’ situation, but they are set to be left disappointed. Spain is his favoured next port of call, with a new challenge ready to be embraced after making over 180 appearances for Bayern since joining them from MLS side the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019.
