However, according to <a href="https://theathletic.com/5125567/2023/12/11/man-utd-transfers-anthony-martial-contract/ " target="_blank">The Athletic</a>, the 28-year-old forward will be allowed to leave Old Trafford in 2024. He will reach free agency at the end of the season if no sale is agreed in January – United’s last opportunity to bring in a fee.

WHAT HAPPENED?

United are eager to move Martial on as <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/face-like-slapped-arse-anthony-martial-leave-man-utd-reserve-goalkeeper-better-job-up-front-moody-frenchman/blt2068dcb5bb998f4a" target="_blank">he has been underperforming on the field</a> and would free up a space in Erik ten Hag’s squad, as well as funds on a big-money wage bill. The Frenchman has taken in 19 appearances this season, but only seven one those have been starts and he is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/man-utd-fans-turn-anthony-martial-loudly-cheers-substituted-bournemouth/blt91401e5db4fc901a" target="_blank">yet to complete a full 90 minutes</a>.

He was allowed to join Sevilla on loan during the 2021-22 campaign, but was unable to secure a permanent transfer.
