Euro 2020 Outright Betting: England made joint-favourites after win over Croatia

England have been cut to 5/1 (6.0) joint-favourites to win Euro 2020 after their opening win over Croatia in Group D.

It was hardly a classic at Wembley Stadium where the 22,500 fans were treated to just four shots on target, with the key one of those coming from Raheem Sterling in the 57th minute when his shot beat Dominik Livakovic to separate the sides.

That result saw Betfair Sportsbook cut the Three Lions from 11/2 (6.50) to 5/1 (6.0) in the outright betting, making them market leaders along with world champions France.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “The odds say football is now that bit closer to coming home this summer after The Three Lions got their tournament off to a perfect start against Croatia. England have now joined France as joint-favourites to go all the way.”

England had never won their opening match at the European Championships prior to Sunday, with this being their 10th finals, but Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips proved to be the catalyst for victory.

The midfielder, affectionately nicknamed ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ by the Elland Road faithful, was by far his country’s best player and picked up the assist for Sterling’s winner in the second half.

Next up for the Three Lions is their rivals to the north and Betfair Sportsbook make them just 3/10 (1.30) to beat Scotland, with three points likely to secure their passage into the Last-16 of Euro 2020.

Steve Clarke’s men, meanwhile, are out at 17/2 (9.50) after a chastening 2-0 defeat to the Czech Republic in their opening game on Monday, leaving them desperate for victory against the Auld Enemy.

Joint-favourites France get their Euro 2020 campaign underway on Tuesday night against Germany, with Didier Deschamps men looking to become European champions and world champions at the same time for the second time in their history.

Belgium are third in the betting market at 6/1 (7.0) following their comfortable 3-0 over Russia and will no doubt prove to be a popular selection to go all the way, given the talent at Roberto Martinez's disposal.

Italy also opened with a 3-0 win, having beaten Turkey in the first game of Euro 2020, and are 7/1 (8.0) whilst Spain can be backed at 15/2 (8.50).
