Premier League Betting: Newcastle United stun Manchester City in 100/1 turnaround

The Premier League title race took another twist on Tuesday night as Newcastle United stunned Manchester City with a 2-1 win to land a 100/1 (101.0) winner.

It looked to be business as usual when Sergio Aguero netted after 24 seconds at St James’ Park – his 15th goal against the Magpies – but a Salomon Rondon equaliser and Matt Ritchie’s late penalty secured a much-needed victory at 18/1 (19.0).

The massive 100/1 (101.0) winner landed for those who backed the visitors to be leading at half-time but Newcastle to turn it around and win the match -  the first time the Magpies have done so all season.

City were just 1/5 (1.20) with bet365 to take the points back to the Etihad but could not capitalise on a host of chances, eventually paying the ultimate price and dropping points after scoring first for the third time this season.

That is also the first time Newcastle have beaten City in the league since September 2005 – a run that was always destined to end at some point, but it could not have come at much worse of a time for Pep Guardiola.

Indeed, bet365 have cut Liverpool to just 4/11 (1.36) to win the title whilst City drifted to 9/4 (2.75), with the holders facing a seven-point deficit if the Reds can beat Leicester on Wednesday evening - which they are 1/4 (1.25) to do.

Burnley almost pulled off a similarly stunning upset after being 2-0 up at Manchester United with three minutes left but were forced to settle for a point.

Sean Dyche’s men were 9/1 (10.0) to claim an unlikely win at Old Trafford but still extended their unbeaten run in the league to five games, with the draw priced at 17/4 (5.25) before kick-off.

A correct score of 2-2 paid out at 22/1 (23.0) but had Burnley been able to hold on to the two-goal advantage they had prior to late goals from Paul Pogba and Victor Lindelof, it would have been a 50/1 (51.0) winner.
