2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates stars who could go to Qatar

There are players from two of the biggest football clubs in South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates who are currently on national duty. Chiefs star Daniel Akpeyi is with the Nigeria squad, while Pirates' Richard Ofori is part of the Ghana team. GOAL takes a look at the four Soweto giants stars who could represent their countries at the 2022 World Cup finals.

The Soweto giants could be represented in Qatar

The 24-year-old defender, who has been one of Pirares' standout performers this season, was part of the Nigeria squad at the 2021 Afcon finals in Cameroon where he played against Guinea-Bissau. However, Ndah is not part of the current squad which will face Ghana's Black Stars, but he will be hoping that the Super Eagles overcome their West African rivals and book their spot in the finals which will be hosted by Qatar later this year.

The experienced goalkeeper is a permanent fixture in the Nigeria squad having been the first-choice at the 2019 Afcon finals in Egypt where he helped the Super Eagles finish third. Akpeyi could start in goal against Black Stars with current Nigeria's first-choice keeper Maduka Okoye unavailable due to illness.

The promising striker has never played for the Black Stars, but he is a Ghana under-23 international having been handed a call-up to the Black Meteors squad which faced Japan last year. Peprah, 21, has established himself as Pirates' first-choice striker and he will be keen to impress the Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.

The Ghana deputy captain is back in the Black Stars camp for the first time since September 2021 when he picked up a shoulder injury. Ofori will be eager to play a vital role in helping his nation return to the World Cup finals with Ghana having missed out on the 2018 showpiece.

Akpeyi was the only PSL player at the 2018 tournament which was hosted by Russia. The 35-year-old did not feature as the Super Eagles bowed out of the competition on the group stage.
