<p>The 35-year-old has clocked just 23 minutes of playing time in Serie A since <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/mats-hummels-new-club-roma-announce-signing-borussia-dortmund-world-cup-winner/blt11897c6cf0f74874" target="_blank">joining Roma in a free transfer following his departure from Borussia Dortmund</a>. It has been a hectic time for the club, having already fired two coaches - Daniele De Rossi and Ivan Juric - this season as they sit 12th in the Italian top-flight with just three wins from 12 matches.</p>

<p>Hummels' lack of playing time and the chaos around the team has resulted in the centre-back considering his future, as <a href="https://sport.sky.de/fussball/artikel/karriereende-moeglich-hummels-beobachtet-situation-bei-as-rom-genau/13254646/34942" target="_blank"><em>Sky Sport</em></a> reports he is willing to leave the club in the January transfer window. If no suitable offer arises, he could decide to hang up his boots.</p>

<p>Roma <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/claudio-ranieri-in-talks-return-roma-premier-league-winner-set-shock-retirement-u-turn/bltbdb31eb046537453" target="_blank">appointed Claudio Ranieri as the club's new coach</a> and he has suggested Hummels will play a more prominent role from now on.</p><p>"I watched a few games. But why shouldn't this boy play? Let's see, he's of a certain age too," Ranieri said in his first press conference as Roma boss. "I choose who makes me win, the good coach is the one who makes the fewest mistakes."</p>

<p>The former Germany star is yet to make a final decision on his future and may decide to stay if he plays more under Ranieri and results improve between now and January. The capital club face a massive test as they take on league leaders Napoli in their next game on November 24.</p>
