The Olympic football tournament, restricted to Under-23 players with three overage players permitted per squad, does not coincide with FIFA international match dates. Therefore, clubs are not obligated to release their players for the competition. Despite these challenges, Macron remains hopeful of Mbappe's participation and in an interview with <a href="https://rmcsport.bfmtv.com/jeux-olympiques/il-faut-que-les-clubs-jouent-le-jeu-le-petit-coup-de-pression-de-macron-au-real-madrid-pour-envoyer-mbappe-aux-jo-2024_AV-202404150876.html" target="_blank">RMC Sport</a>, the president of France said: "We are going to do everything (to have a competitive team). I have confidence in the French and European clubs, if I may say so if you see what I mean. We have the Euro before, that's the problem. I think the clubs have to play their part if we want to have a great show."When asked if he was talking about Real Madrid, he said with a wry smile: "Exactly, that’s what I meant.” Macron added that he has not discussed this with Mbappe: "I have not yet spoken to him about that, but I hope that his club, in particular, allows it. And the other clubs too."
