Real Madrid's lengthy search for a new top-class goalkeeper to compete with Keylor Navas has proven to be a strenuous one.
The Champions League title holders have already set their sights on several targets, chasing the likes of David de Gea, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Thibaut Courtois and Kepa Arrizabalaga. But Zinedine Zidane's side are yet to settle on an option and are keeping their eyes open to ensure they get the right man.
Indeed, in the last week, Madrid have added another big name to their shortlist of options for a future No.1.
Brazilian shot stopper Alisson has been spectacular for Roma this season and many teams across Europe are paying attention, and his displays in Serie A and the Champions League have brought him into Madrid's focus.
The 25-year-old has been linked to the Spanish club already, and was asked recently about a possible move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
"I'm happy for the interest of Real Madrid, although my thoughts are on Roma right now," he told Globoesporte. "But it means that I'm doing my job well."
Madrid’s interest is genuine, however, and they are following him closely as he prepares to compete in the Champions League quarter-finals against Barcelona and at the World Cup with Brazil.
The shot-stopper's performances suggest he will go far in the game, and his agent feels he is already making great progress.
Getty"Alisson is certainly one of the best goalkeepers in the world," he told The Sun. "He loves Roma, 100 per cent. Will he sign a new contract? Now he is focused only in Serie A and on the Champions League."
It has been a meteoric rise for a goalkeeper who did not play a single game in Serie A last season before taking over as the undisputed No.1 this term.
The shot-stopper seems on the road to the top of the global game, and Real Madrid could be the ones to take him there.
