WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Guimaraes had been <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/psg-battle-man-city-arsenal-bruno-guimaraes-flop-midfielder/blt7c038cfcebfc07fa" target="_self">heavily linked with an exit</a> from Newcastle this summer, however no team chose to activate his release clause which expired in June, believed to be worth around £100 million ($128m) The 26-year-old still has four years remaining on his contract at St James' Park.</p>

WHAT GUIMARAES SAID

<p>City continue to remain admirers of Guimaraes, with Pep Guardiola's side still expected to strengthen in midfield this summer. However, City could instead focus their attention on Euro 2024 star Dani Olmo, who is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/barcelona-eur60m-dani-olmo-six-year-contract-manchester-city/bltd67ca9604ac82b6c" target="_self">also being heavily pursued</a> by Barcelona.
