Now, the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13816603/Inside-Newcastle-failed-pursuit-Marc-Guehi-Man-United-Alex-Ferguson-Arsenal-shock-target-SAMI-MOKBEL.html" target="_blank">Daily Mail</a> reports that United were so intent on signing the France Under-21 international this summer that they were ready to enlist the help of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson to persuade Olise to join. Although they were pipped to the winger's signature, they are said to be in pole position to recruit him if he decides to move on in the future.

WHAT HAPPENED?

<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/completed-man-utd-transfers-2024-25/bltd596463ab5905ecf" target="_blank">United spent around £200m ($263.5m) this summer</a>, taking their expenditure under manager Erik ten Hag to upwards of £600m ($790.7m), but the Dutchman and his players are under pressure already after two losses in their opening three games. Olise may not have solved their issues, but the outlook may have been a bit better if Olise was in the team.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

In an injury-hit campaign last season, where he was limited to just 19 Premier League matches, former Reading star Olise scored 10 goals and notched six assists for Palace, as they finished 10th in the division.

Olise's unbeaten Bayern are next in action on September 14 away to Holstein in the Bundesliga, whereas United - who are hoping to avoid a third defeat on the spin - travel to lowly Southampton earlier on that day in the Premier League.
