The United States international goalkeeper has <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/nottingham-forest-matt-turner-usmnt-loan-transfer/bltcef8fcc5348ed7b9" target="_blank">slipped down the pecking order at the City Ground</a> on the back of his 2023 transfer from Arsenal. He started his debut campaign with Forest as first-choice between the sticks, but lost his place after <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/usmnt-star-matt-turner-brutally-honest-verdict-nottingham-forest-season/bltf1b382704d618a33" target="_blank">making a number of costly errors</a>.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Forest have since drafted in Matz Sels and Carlos Miguel – and they have both <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/mls-return-usmnt-star-matt-turner-nottingham-forest-offers-goalkeeper-interest-america-summer-transfer-window/blt13c1bafd04c3720b" target="_blank">seen game time ahead of Turner</a> in the 2024-25 campaign. The Reds remain in the market for another shot-stopper, with Republic of Ireland international Kelleher in their sights.

<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5732182/2024/08/29/nottingham-forest-bid-caoimhin-kelleher/ " target="_blank">The Athletic</a> reports that Turner was offered to Liverpool in a deal that would have seen Kelleher head in the opposite direction, but said approach has been turned down by those at Anfield. Georgia international <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/liverpool-signing-giorgi-mamardashvili-completes-anfield-transfer-georgian-valencia/blt3289b31d98c87065" target="_blank">Giorgi Mamardashvili is heading to Merseyside</a>, but his move from Valencia will not be completed until the summer of 2025 when a season-long loan in Spain has been completed.

As a result, Liverpool are eager to keep Kelleher on board as back-up to Brazilian star Alisson. They are said to value the 25-year-old custodian at between £25 million and £30m ($40m), with Forest’s bid – even with Turner being used as a makeweight –falling short of that mark.
