Dirk Kuty's hat-trick for Feyenoord against Heracles on Sunday sealed the Eredivisie title for the Rotterdam outfit, who will wear the Dutch crown for the first time since the 1998-99 season and the 15th time overall.
It was a campaign that came down to the very last round of action, with Europa League finalists Ajax having spent the campaign in hot pursuit, only to be thwarted by a sluggish start. Defending champions PSV, meanwhile, lost fewer games than anyone else but found a tally of 10 draws costly.
Feyenoord, though, led the race from first post until last and proved deserving champions. As a result, they dominate Goal 's best XI of the season:
KOSTAS LAMPROU (Willem II):
An underappreciated figure in the Eredivisie, the 25-year-old made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Eredivisie, and he picks his moments well when it comes to rushing out to close down opponents. There is always a danger of a blunder with him, but overall he is a sound presence at the back. Out of contract when the transfer window opens, he may be aiming higher than 13th in the Dutch top flight.
PROSHOTSRICK KARSDORP (Feyenoord):
Surely the first choice right back for the national team, the formidable attacking force and solid defender can dominate the right flank and has been pivotal for Feyenoord in their title win. At 22, he has a long way to develop, but he is already at a high level and an exciting player to behold.
ERIC BOTTEGHIN (Feyenoord):
The big Brazilian seemed an odd choice for Feyenoord when they snapped him up from Groningen given his lack of pace and erratic nature as a centre-back, but there have been few problems from him this season. He played every minute of Eredivisie football this season and chipped in with four goals - including the late winner against PSV in Eindhoven.
Premier League Team of the Season
DAVINSON SANCHEZ (Ajax):
An unbelievable behemoth, it's no surprise Barcelona are heavily interested in a 20-year-old who has really stood out in his first season since joining from Atletico Nacional in the summer. He won the Copa Libertadores just before arriving in Amsterdam and has been crucial in their journey to the Europa League. Certainly one of the best in the Dutch league this year.
GettyTERENCE KONGOLO (Feyenoord):
Absolutely awesome, the young centre-back is destined to reach a high level as he continues to flourish at a club he joined when he was just eight years old. Now 23, his pace, tackling and reading of the game make him integral to Feyenoord either in his natural central role or on the left side, where he has enjoyed a standout 2016-17 campaign.
DAVY PROPPER (PSV):
The introduction of Marco van Ginkel to PSV halfway through the season had a massive influence on their turnaround in recent months, but his sister's boyfriend has been superb all the way through it. PSV's campaign was a disappointment as they offered up no real defence of their title, but Propper was a classy presence in midfield, adding six goals and seven assists, while only Hakim Ziyech created more chances in the league.
GettyKARIM EL AHMADI (Feyenoord):
He has always been loved in Rotterdam for his hard work and excellent energy, but the big issue of his game has been an inability to find the net. The Morocco international demolished that reputation this season with five goals in an awesome campaign while adding in his fair share defensively.
HAKIM ZIYECH (Ajax):
The most creative player in the league by far, Ajax were lucky he was still in the Eredivisie when they snapped him up for €11m at the end of the summer transfer window. The Morocco international is the main reason they had a chance of winning the league this term - he has revitalised a stale attack and helped make them an impressive team once again.
Why Italian managers are so much better
REZA GHOOCHANNEJHAD (Heerenveen):
Scoring 19 goals for a Heerenveen team finishing right in the middle of the league is no easy achievement, but the Iran international has been deadly all season.
Playing SurfaceNICOLAI JORGENSEN (Feyenoord):
With 21 goals and 11 assists, the Denmark international finishes the top goalscorer in a remarkable campaign. Deadly up front, he has been a star in his first season in Rotterdam and will be key in their progress next season.
SAMUEL ARMENTEROS (Heracles):
The Swedish attacker has been ferocious. His 19 goals in 29 Eredivisie appearances make him the absolute star for a side that lost their most dazzling players from an impressive 2015-16 campaign. That doesn't quite capture his magic, though - dazzling runs, quality free-kicks and some lovely strikes - he has been a true delight upon his return to Almelo.
