Motale: Orlando Pirates coach Jonevret needs to get his combinations right in defence

Legendary Orlando Pirates defender Edward Motale says club's current coach Kjell Jonevret can't be blamed for rotating his defence.

However, Motale urged the Swedish tactician to get his combinations right as soon as possible because rotation has cost the Buccaneers this season.

"The rotation has cost them a lot [this season]," Motale to The Sowetan on Friday.

"I can't blame Kjell for changing the defence sometimes, because he's only been here for a couple of months and he's trying to get his combinations right," he added.

"It's vital that he gets that right soon. You saw what happened earlier in the season," he concluded.

The former Bafana Bafana international was referring to the 6-1 and 6-0 defeats to SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively as the previous Bucs coaches chopped and changed the defence.

The Buccaneers have the fourth worst defence in the league at the moment. They have conceded 33 goals in 23 matches.

Happy Jele and Ayanda Gcaba are the only two Bucs defenders, who have been playing regularly under the 2005 Swedish Coach of the Year Jonevret.

Pirates will host Bloemfontein Celtic in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash in Johannesburg on Saturday.
