VIDEO: Goalkeeper in Turkey saves two penalties, is sent off and defender saves third

Usakspor goalkeeper Ersin Aydin saved two penalties before being sent off against Ergene Velimese, with his replacement Levent Aktug stopping another spot-kick in a thrilling game of football in Turkey.

Kadir Ari scored a brace to give Usakspor a 2-0 lead in the Turkish third division clash, which descended into chaos in stoppage time.

Velimese were awarded a 90th-minute penalty, which Aydin saved before receiving a yellow card for moving off of his line.

The kick was retaken, and Aydin pulled off another good stop, but the referee booked him for a second time after judging that he was too far out of his goal once again.

Aydin was shown a red card, much to the dismay of the Usakspor players, who surrounded the referee to question his controversial decision.

With no back-up keeper available on the bench, Usakspor defender Aktug donned the number one jersey for the final few seconds, and proved to be the unlikely hero of the match.

Velimese saw their third penalty attempt saved comfortably by Aktug down to his left, which ultimately ensured that Usakspor held on for a valuable clean sheet.

Usakspor moved to within three points of 12th placed Velimese in the TFF Lig 2 standings after the win, as both sides continue to aim for a top-half finish.

The incredible incident in Turkey was reminiscent to one that took place at the European Under-17 Championships a year ago, when Ireland were knocked out of the competition by the Netherlands in a penalty shootout.

Ireland 'keeper Jimmy Corcoran was shown a second yellow card for coming off his line to save a Daishawn Redan penalty kick, with a defender forced to take up his position for the retake.

Redan took his second opportunity from 12 yards and the Netherlands progressed to the semi-finals with a 5-4 victory, with Ireland's manager Colin O'Brien left bemoaning an extraordinary set of circumstances post-match.
