Mexico qualified for the Women's Gold Cup quarter-finals as winners of their group after <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/usnwnt-player-ratings-mexico/blt75a7f17ca8e413be" target="_blank">beating the United States women's national team 2-0 </a>on Monday. Lizbeth Ovalle handed her team the lead in the first half before Pelayo netted the second in the 92nd minute.The attacking midfielder received a long ball on the left flank and then cut onto her right foot before finding the back of the net with a stunning strike from nearly 20 yards.

Their last defeat at home was against Canada in November 2000. Since then they had embarked on an unbeaten run of 80 international matches, with only two draws recorded in that sequence.
