Monaco reach €20m agreement for Lyon wonderkid Geubbels

Monaco have reached an agreement to sign Lyon wonderkid Willem Geubbels for a fee worth €20 million (£18m/$24m), Goal understands.

Geubbels, 16, made four appearances for Lyon in the 2017-18 season, and became the youngest player in Europa League history when he came off the bench against Atalanta.

His talents have not gone unnoticed, and Monaco have swooped for one of France's highest-rated young talents in a lucrative deal.

The teenager will sign a three-year deal in the principality subject to the passing of a medical, with the option to extend the link for a further two seasons.

RB Leipzig had also been in the hunt for Geubbels, but the German side's bid was doubled by Monaco.

Geubbels was also convinced by the project set forward by Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim and star forward Radamel Falcao, who personally recommended the Stade Louis II club to the forward.

He also becomes the most expensive under-age player in French football history thanks to a deal that aside from the €20m fee, also includes bonuses payable to Lyon and a percentage of any future transfer.
