The Uruguayan, who has been in fine goalscoring form already this season, powered a header past Ivan Cuellar to restore parity for the La Liga leaders, who managed to take three points back to Camp Nou courtesy of Arturo Vidal's 75th minute strike.
Elsewhere, Iago Aspas proved to be Celta Vigo's talisman once again, scoring twice in the last quarter of an hour to help Oscar Garcia earn his first win as Celta manager against Villarreal.
At the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia, Ruben Rochina's 35-yard piledriver handed 10-man Levante victory against RCD Mallorca.
