The 30-year-old England international faces charges of <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/harry-maguire-insists-no-regrets-mykonos-incident-that-led-to-arrest/bltdb0f139b6015b98a" target="_blank">assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and attempted bribery</a> while holidaying on the Greek island in the summer of 2020. According to the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13056619/harry-maguire-denied-court-greece-strike-holiday-brawl.html" target="_blank">Daily Mail</a>, Maguire was "geared up" for Wednesday's hearing, but he will now have to wait longer for a resolution due to widespread events currently happening in the country.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The reason for the delay is due to the lawyer's strike currently happening in Greece. Prosecution lawyer Yannis Paradisis told <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/feb/06/harry-maguires-assault-case-appeal-on-hold-after-lawyers-strike-in-greece" target="_blank">the Guardian</a>: "The case is going to be adjourned. The strike has meant court proceedings cannot take place. We will be given a new date by the judge tomorrow."A source told <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/25771519/harry-maguire-mykonos-holiday-brawl-man-utd/" target="_blank">The Sun</a> that while officials want a swift resolution, lawyers "can't be seen as strike-breakers". According to the Mail's report, this is the second time the trial has been delayed.

THE EXPLANATION

The incident in question saw Maguire holidaying with a group including his wife Fern Hawkins, sister Daisy and brother Joe. It is alleged that Daisy was injected by an unknown substance after being approached by a group of Albanian businessmen. Maguire claims that he was taken to a police station - not to a hospital to help his sister - and beaten by authorities. The United star attempted to flee the scene as he thought he was part of a kidnap attempt.

Maguire was found guilty in August 2020 and was handed a 21-month suspended sentence.
