Addressing a United fans' forum, John Murtough shared the club's view that the January transfer window was not an 'optimal time' to recruit players. He also warned that the Red Devils need to adhere to financial fair play (FFP) regulations, with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/everton-deducted-10-points-toffees-premier-league-relegation-zone-punishment-profitability-sustainability-rules-breach/blt57b3f269d5827b76" target="_blank">Everton recently being slapped with a ten-point deduction for breaking the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.</a>

WHAT HAPPENED?

In comments shared with the Manchester United Fans’ Forum on December 13, Murtough stated: “Looking ahead to the January transfer window, we are not expecting it to be particularly busy.“There will always be the possibility of deals around the edges of the squad, particularly in terms of finding opportunities for players who are not playing as much football as they would like.“However, we’ve always been consistent in saying that we do not see January as the optimal time to do business and our recruitment strategy remains focused on summer windows.”"We’ve seen this season that financial fair play (FFP) rules have real teeth, so we have to be very careful to ensure that we remain compliant, and we will. But that means being really disciplined on spending going forward, with a balance between incomings and outgoings."

WHAT JOHN MURTOUGH SAID

Murtough's comments will no doubt come as another blow to supporters who have seen their side beset by poor results on the field and frustrated by the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/sir-jim-ratcliffe-todd-boehly-man-utd-chelsea-ownership-model/blt047af1767c3bc8ee" target="_blank">ongoing ownership saga</a> off it. Sir Jim Ratcliffe's purchase of a 25% stake in the club is due to trigger a much-needed overhaul in the sporting structure at Old Trafford. But with that deal yet to be ratified and Murtough's update stating that United have little financial room to play with, it seems a sporting revolution remains a long way off.
