WHAT HAPPENED?

The incident in question began at around 10pm, with Baggio confronting one of the invaders. The 57-year-old was then struck by the butt of a gun, leaving him with a nasty cut on his forehead. The rest of Baggio’s family were escorted to another room and locked in.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Baggio’s home was then ransacked, with watches, jewellery and money being stolen. Once it became apparent that the intruders had left, the ex-Italy international was able to break down a door and call police.

Local police forces took statements from Baggio and his family, while also watching surveillance videos, with the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/roberto-baggio-pep-guardiola-former-italian-international-best-player-he-ever-played/bltca36b67f211a8091" target="_blank">former Juventus, AC Milan and Inter</a> star then taken to the emergency room in Arzignano for medical treatment – with stitches required on his head injury. The rest of Baggio’s family were unharmed.
