Lloris or De Gea? Mkhitaryan or Eriksen? - Manchester United vs Tottenham combined XI

It's second against third in the Premier League on Saturday as Manchester United host Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho's side are looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season, against Huddersfield Town last weekend, with the Red Devils now five points behind leaders Manchester City.

Spurs, meanwhile, thrashed Liverpool on Sunday and despite being knocked out of the Carabao Cup in midweek, look to be hitting top form following a shaky start to the campaign.

But which players available for selection from both sides would make a combined XI judged on their form so far this season? Goal picks its all-star selection below...

HUGO LLORIS (Tottenham):  Despite David de Gea having kept seven clean sheets in nine Premier League matches so far this season, Lloris' form in recent weeks means he just pips his Spanish counterpart. Remarkable saves against both Bournemouth and Real Madrid were crucial in gaining positive results, and the France international looks to be getting back to his very best.

ANTONIO VALENCIA (Manchester United):  Has gone from inconsistent winger to one of the most dependable full-backs in Europe, as well as taking up the role of Jose Mourinho's on-field captain. Now as strong defensively as he always has been when going forward.

PHIL JONES (Manchester United):  Written off by many ahead of this season, Jones has finally shown why Sir Alex Ferguson tried so hard to sign him from Blackburn Rovers six years ago. His importance was only highlighted by United's capitulation against Huddersfield after he limped off with a minor injury.

JAN VERTONGHEN (Tottenham):  Now Belgium's record appearance-maker at international level, Vertonghen has yet again been a model of consistency, both at centre-back and on the rare occasions he has been pressed into action on the left-hand side of a back four.

BEN DAVIES (Tottenham):  He may not grab the headlines, but Wales international Davies has proven a more than able deputy for Danny Rose thus far this season. The former Swansea full-back has improved his attacking game immeasurably, highlighted by his two goals already this campaign, and could yet keep his place in the starting XI despite Rose's return to fitness.

NEMANJA MATIC (Manchester United):  Though his impact since Paul Pogba's injury has waned, the Serbia international remains a key figure for the Red Devils as he looks to maintain the tempo and allow those ahead of him to flourish going forward.

HARRY WINKS (Tottenham): With the likes of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama still working their way back to full fitness, Winks has stepped in and insured there have been no issues in the centre of the park for Tottenham. The youngster's performances earned him a first England cap against Lithuania and he could yet book himself a spot in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad.

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN (Tottenham):  One of the standout Premier League players of 2017, the Dane continues to regularly produce stunning moments of skill and defence-splitting passes. Netted the winner in the recent victory over Bournemouth as Spurs picked up their first home league win of the season, and it is no surprise to now see him being linked with Barcelona.

DELE ALLI (Tottenham):  Starting to come into his own after a somewhat slow start to the campaign. Goals against Liverpool and West Ham took him past 20 for the calendar year, and may be about to flourish after being deployed in a deeper role in recent weeks by Mauricio Pochettino.

MARCUS RASHFORD (Manchester United): Set to play his final match as a teenager and continues to flourish despite not playing in his best position. No United player has been directly involved in more goals than the England youngster so far this season, which is testament to his growing maturity.

ROMELU LUKAKU (Manchester United):  Despite having drawn blanks in his last three starts, it would be unfair to say that Lukaku has not been key in United's improvement from last season. The former Everton forward has scored 11 goals in all competitions already and is well in the hunt for a first Premier League Golden Boot. His inclusion in this side, however, is helped by Harry Kane's absence with injury.
