The Gunners had been <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/why-arsenal-chelsea-hold-advantage-over-psg-in-victor-osimhen-transfer-pursuit-explained/blt039576964a6c6140" target="_blank">linked to the Nigerian forward for a long time</a> but their interest in him seemed to cool while Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain continued to pursue him. However, <a href="https://www.corrieredellosport.it/news/calcio/calcio-mercato/napoli/2024/08/21-131702102/napoli_l_arsenal_torna_su_osimhen_lo_scenario" target="_blank">Corriere dello Sport</a> reports that the north London team have returned to the race to sign Osimhen as they look to strengthen their attack with a new striker.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Napoli are eager to cash in on Osimhen. They were initially holding out for the full €130 million (£111m/$145m) release clause in his contract to be triggered before they would be willing to let him go, but the Serie A side have re-evaluated their stance and are willing to accept a lower fee. Offloading Osimhen would see them raise much-needed money and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/why-romelu-lukaku-chelsea-limbo-striker-desired-transfer-napoli-may-not-go-through/blt8865d5248ff90337" target="_blank">allow them to bring in Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea</a>.

Chelsea continue to push for a deal to sign Osimhen from Napoli and the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/napoli-table-formal-romelu-lukaku-victor-osimhen-swap-deal-offer-chelsea-outcast-reunite-antonio-conte/blt488f21efed2d791b" target="_blank">Italian club tabled an offer of a swap deal</a>. The Blues, however, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/chelsea-pushing-for-victor-osimhen-loan-deal-despite-napoli-insisting-pathway-is-blocked/bltb42e1247d4beec8a" target="_blank">are attempting to convince Napoli to let Osimhen join them on loan</a>, but the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/victor-osimhen-snub-chelsea-frustrate-napoli-romelu-lukaku-preferred-transfer/blt1f5d022ceb3c285f" target="_blank">Nigieria international is reportedly prepared to snub Enzo Maresca's team</a> in order to make a different move.
