Chelsea were the victims of a classic smash-and-grab as Brentford claimed an unlikely 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday - but the Blues only really had themselves to blame. The hosts saw a raft of first-half chances go begging, including Noni Madueke curling the ball onto the upright, Marc Cucurella being unable to convert from a few yards out and Raheem Sterling blazing over from close range.
Brentford took full advantage of Chelsea's profligacy shortly before the hour mark, as centre-back Ethan Pinnock drifted in at the back post unmarked to power home a header from a brilliant Bryan Mbeumo cross.
In their desperate search for an equaliser against a staunch backline, the Blues were caught on the break in stoppage time with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez way up the pitch, and Mbeumo rolled the ball into an empty net after Neal Maupay had broken clear.
