According to the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13271249/Premier-League-eyeing-ABOLISHING-points-deductions-introducing-NBA-style-luxury-tax-fears-stars-leave-rules-restrict-pay-Everton-Nottingham-Forest-lost-points.html " target="_blank">Daily Mail</a>, the Premier League is ready to revise the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) that are currently in place. That could work in City’s favour, while <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/chelsea-more-severe-points-deduction-everton-nottingham-forest-psr-breaches-financial-expert-prediction/blt406ee25a851f28e1" target="_blank">big-spending Chelsea will be keeping a close eye on developments</a> alongside the likes of Newcastle and Aston Villa. They both <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/sold-newcastle-eddie-howe-joelinton-final-game-magpies/blt5e69b875be329c14" target="_blank">feared that they may have to sell</a>, despite forcing their way into top-four contention of late, in a bid to balance the books.

It is now being suggested that changes could be implemented that see points penalties abolished and a “luxury tax” introduced. Leading clubs are said to consider the punishments handed out to Everton and Forest to be “draconian”, while there is a fear that the Premier League could lose its standing at the top of world football if ambitious outfits are not allowed to splash the cash.
