The boos rang down on Messi as he made his first appearance since being handed a two-week suspension for missing training and taking an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia, which was ultimately shortened after he apologised. His reception soured what was an otherwise much-improved showing from the Parisians, with Mbappe bagging two goals in a 5-0 win that moves the club even closer to a Ligue 1 title.
Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring for the home side, snatching onto a Danilo Pereira's through-ball before evading a defender and lifting his shot over a sprawling keeper. The Parisians had a second just after 30 minutes when Achraf Hakimi finished from close range after Mbappe's twisting effort was saved. Mbappe finally got one of his own early in the second half, his toe-poke squirming under the goalie for a 3-0 lead. He added an audacious second to put the score well beyond doubt, with an own goal from Ajaccio extending the lopsided scoreline.
A Hakimi red card for a reckless swing at an Ajaccio player caused PSG to finish the contest with 10 men - but that wasn't much a problem. Ligue 1, then, is sorted. But the Messi issue, boos and all, will drag on until the end of the season.
