- First major signing of Postecoglou era
WHAT HAPPENED? As per The Telegraph, Spurs are on the verge of announcing Maddison as the first major signing of Ange Postecoglou's tenure as head coach. Previous reports suggested that the North London club were hesitant to match the Foxes' original asking price of £60m ($76m), and it appears they have managed to negotiate a cut-price deal after 48 hours of intense discussions between the two clubs.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: The final £40m ($51m) sum could rise depending on how many appearances Maddison makes for Spurs and what he achieves with the club. Newcastle United had also shown interest in the midfielder, however, they appeared to step back after completing the signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
