The Red Devils sit 11th in the Premier League with seven points from a possible 15. Ahead of United hosting Tottenham on Sunday, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has defended Ten Hag's spell at Old Trafford and believes he has done well in a difficult job.

WHAT HAPPENED?

He told reporters on Friday: "I think Erik's in a really tough job and he's done really well. He keeps mentioning he's won two trophies and that's not insignificant, everyone keeps telling me that's all I have to do, but it's not all you have to do, because when you do that there's always more. He's done a great job, a difficult job."

WHAT ANGE POSTECOGLOU SAID

While Ten Hag has won a Carabao Cup and an FA Cup during his United tenure, the club have spent around <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/completed-man-utd-transfers-2024-25/bltd596463ab5905ecf" target="_blank">£200 million ($268.3m) this summer</a> and there hasn't been a marked improvement in results or the way they play this term. If they don't pick up wins quickly, the former Ajax boss may be heading for the Old Trafford exit - despite being handed a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/erik-ten-hag-renews-man-utd-contract-until-2026/bltf932834fb2cab480" target="_blank">contract extension until 2026 earlier this year</a>.

After United host 10th-placed Tottenham this weekend, Ten Hag's team return to Europa League action on Thursday evening when they travel to Portugal to take on FC Porto in their second match of the competition this season.
