<p>Carsley <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/lee-carsley-england-experiment-greece-interim-boss-future/bltd44f10efdeb3503c#csa4b3ac20a55c8263" target="_blank">received a lot of criticism</a> for his tactics as <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/lee-carsley-attacking-experiment-winners-losers-england-greece/blte00fcaf944e2baf5" target="_blank">England went down 2-1 against Greece</a> in their Nations League clash earlier this week. After guiding the Three Lions to back-to-back wins in his first two games in charge of the senior side, Carsley suffered his first loss on Thursday.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>However, the interim manager justified his decision as he claimed he wanted to try a different approach, and that the nation must change their views on football if England are to win a major tournament.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Speaking to reporters, the 50-year-old said of his reign, "I could see it being quite easy just to go with the same squad and the same players and almost, not doing the same thing, but not trying as many things. Your human instinct is to be safe, to go with things that you’re comfortable with, but it was important that in this period I felt that I have to be out of my comfort zone.</p><p>"I have to try something because we’ve got to put ourselves in a position where we can win and to think that we can just do the same again and expect something different I think is naive. So I totally accept all of the criticism. I’m glad it was directed towards me, not the players, and we move on."</p>

WHAT LEE CARSLEY SAID

<p>Carsley<a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/lee-carsley-applied-england-job-permanent/blt0d895f747e57402e#cs6ce9d3eb4fcc73e1" target="_blank"> has already confirmed</a> that he has not formally applied for England's head coach's position. The Three Lions return to action on Sunday away at Finland.</p>
