Greenwood's loan club Getafe have <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/la-liga-mason-greenwood-new-home-getafe-transfer-stance-man-utd-outcast-impressive-loan-coliseum-alfonso-perez/bltd11069fb36233851#cs3335e459d785f995" target="_blank">confirmed they are considering signing</a> the forward permanently after his contract expires at the end of the season. Getafe will only have to pay 80% of any agreed price with United, according to <a href="https://theathletic.com/5130726/2023/12/12/mason-greenwood-transfer-manchester-united-getafe/" target="_blank">The Athletic</a>. The Spanish side also stand to profit if Greenwood moves elsewhere. Getafe will earn 20% of his transfer fee if United end up selling him to another club due to a clause in his contract. The clause was inserted into the loan deal as Getafe did not pay a fee to sign the forward and United viewed it as "a way to secure value regardless of his next move."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Greenwood's long-term future remains unclear for the time being. He has a contract at United until 2025 but is not <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/no-expectation-mason-greenwood-playing-man-utd-chief-executive-update-future-getafe-loan-transfer/blt6ab9d986f9bf3c79" target="_blank">expected to play for the club again</a>, although the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/revealed-when-man-utd-make-decision-mason-greenwood-why-no-future-call-made-getafe-loanee/blt42188c14905ccbcd" target="_blank">Red Devils have not yet made a final decision on the 22-year-old</a>. Getafe have made it clear they are interested in keeping Greenwood and may face competition from other clubs. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-utd-loanee-mason-greenwood-transfer-target-two-top-la-liga-clubs-impressive-getafe-old-trafford/blt0388d50b11150f97#cs58f327db8a0769ab" target="_blank">Valencia and Real Sociedad are reported</a> to have taken an interest in the forward, while <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/premier-league-scouting-man-utd-mason-greenwood-getafe-wondergoal-almeria/blt0c0e195b94d7a66d" target="_blank">Premier League clubs are said to have regularly scouted</a> the Manchester United loanee.
