The <a href="https://www.manutd.com/en/tickets-and-hospitality/legends-2024?t=y&amp;utm_source=mufoundationtwitter&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=match_tickets&amp;utm_content=legendsmatchLPRooney" target="_blank">Red Devils released the list of former players</a> who will be a part of their legends squad that will take on Celtic legends in a charity game on September 7. The Plymouth Argyle boss finds his name among a host of other yesteryear icons including Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Antonio Valencia, Dimitar Berbatov, Nicky Butt, and Paul Scholes. The team will be managed by Bryan Robson.

WHAT HAPPENED?

A similar legends match was organised by the Manchester United Foundation in 2022 against Liverpool which raised £1.3 million (€1.5m/$1.3m). From the clash against Celtic, the club once again aim to support the Foundation's work with the kids in the Greater Manchester area and beyond.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rooney joined Plymouth as their manager in May 2024, however, his <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/wayne-rooney-man-utd-legend-claims-plymouth-boss-protected-management-not-for-him-championship/blt53fce34af6ae7c39" target="_blank">journey with the Championship side has got off to an underwhelming start</a>. After losing the season opener against Sheffield Wednesday 4-0, they managed a 1-1 draw in their second Championship game against Hull City.
