Manchester City were brought back to earth from their Saudi Arabia sojourn by a gritty Everton side, but the gulf in class eventually shone through and the newly-crowned world champions cruised to a 3-1 comeback victory.
Pep Guardiola's side ran the show but couldn't score and fell behind to Jack Harrison's close-range strike after a bizarre error from Rodri, who played like he had over-indulged on Christmas Day.
But the Spaniard was bailed out by Phil Foden, who outclassed Everton and also scored a thumping strike to pull City level. The champions were awarded a penalty soon after which Julian Alvarez, with a bit of fortune, squeezed under the legs of Jordan Pickford. But there was no question that City deserved to be in front and the brilliant Bernardo Silva rounded off a fine team display with a classy finish to put Guardiola's side back on track.
