The France international, who helped his country to World Cup glory in 2018, was once at the centre of a €120m (£102m/$130m) deal, as he traded life in the Spanish capital for that at Barcelona in the summer of 2019. Things did not play out as planned at Camp Nou, allowing Griezmann to retrace professional steps.

WHAT HAPPENED?

He <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/video-memphis-depay-gift-diamond-nba-ring-antoine-griezmann-atletico-madrid/blt8adc28a1397eff99" target="_blank">returned to Atletico for just €20m (£17m/$22m) in 2022</a>, following an initial loan agreement, and showed last season that he remains a force to be reckoned with by registering 24 goals through 48 appearances in all competitions.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Griezmann is now 33 years of age, but <a href="https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Pour-les-bleus-il-y-a-du-transfert-dans-l-air-pour-ce-mercato-estival/1471021 " target="_blank">L’Equipe</a> reports that he is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/star-players-follow-lionel-messi-mls/blt31e513e429de0125" target="_blank">still attracting interest from MLS</a> and leading sides across Europe. That is due in part to the fact that he can be lured away from Madrid for just €15m (£13m/$16m).

Any deal in 2024 appears unlikely, though, with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/i-want-be-my-last-club-europe-antoine-griezmann-speaks-next-move-mls-links/blt4ccc1496ecd7637b#cs4fb99c2250eb01df" target="_blank">Griezmann having said of his future</a> while preparing for European Championship duty: “I have had offers and calls but I have been clear – I want to stay at Atletico. I made a lot of effort to come back and be accepted. I want it to be my last club in Europe.”
