<p>Salah's future at Anfield looked uncertain in the early months of 2022 as the Reds struggled to thrash out a renewal agreement with the forward and his agent, Ramy Abbas. However, on July 1, the Egyptian finally <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/salah-signs-new-liverpool-contract-to-end-speculation-over-anfield-exit/blt6ebf1fa607a120f1" target="_blank">penned a new three-year deal</a> that tied him to Anfield until 2025.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p><a href="https://www.thetimes.com/sport/football/article/mohamed-salah-liverpool-future-contract-arne-slot-anfield-future-bpn6fw2b0" target="_blank"><em>The Times</em></a> has now revealed that Klopp 'discussed' the possibility of bringing in Antony with Liverpool's recruitment team to replace Salah in case he left the club. However, a deal never materialised and the Ajax winger eventually completed a blockbuster £85m ($110m) transfer to Liverpool's arch-rivals Manchester United.</p>

<p>Liverpool fans will certainly be glad that a formal swoop for Antony was never approved. While Salah has maintained his world-class standards and further established himself as an Anfield hero over the last two-and-a-half seasons, Antony has managed to record just 17 goal contributions in 87 appearances for the Red Devils, and is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/antony-told-he-can-leave-man-utd-in-january-after-erik-ten-hag-sacking-with-gbp85m-flop-touted-for-return-to-brazil/blt28e056d4d288294b#cs83a6a8a767d854dc" target="_blank">no longer a first-team regular</a>.</p>
