<a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/jim-ratcliffe-faces-rejection-over-public-funds-for-new-stadium-cjh0sx8l9" target="_blank">The Times</a> reports that the British government will reject any plea from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS to use public money to help fund <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/wembley-of-the-north-man-utd-sir-jim-ratcliffe-bold-plans-spectacular-new-old-trafford-home/blt7b7c37a27c980714#csb093b94c37fb63f4" target="_blank">a new national stadium in the north of England</a>, that would serve as Manchester United's new home, following the proposed demolition of Old Trafford.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The report claims that the government have made it abundantly clear that United would need to fund any new stadium themselves. Ratcliffe, though, wants to discuss his plans with the government, as he also intends to potentially regenerate the area surrounding Old Trafford in the coming months and years.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

While the government would reportedly be willing to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/gary-neville-chosen-sir-jim-ratcliffe-advise-man-utd-stadium-redevelopment-old-trafford/blteb101d4c04621e01" target="_blank">fund regenerative projects around Old Trafford</a>, they are not minded to help fund the construction of an entirely new stadium, per the report. Ratcliffe has not yet spoken directly with any ministers but that conversation may well take place in due course.
