- Ajax down in 17th place in table
- Decide to part ways with Steijn
- Manager leaves immediately
WHAT HAPPENED: The Eredivise giants have announced they have parted company with Steijn after a 4-3 defeat to Uretcht continued their dismal start to the new campaign and left the team in the relegation places with just five points from seven games. Steijn leaves after just 11 games in charge of the club.
WHAT THEY SAID: "Ajax and Maurice Steijn are parting ways with immediate effect," read a club statement. "The club management and Steijn have jointly decided that the trainer will resign his duties. Steijn arrived at Ajax from Sparta Rotterdam last summer and signed a contract in Amsterdam until June 30, 2026."
THE BIGGER PICTURE: The move comes as little surprise with Ajax on their worst run of results since 1954. The team are without a win since August and have not kept a clean sheet since September 3. Sunday's game was also by marred missiles being thrown onto the pitch and the game twice suspended because of the crowd disorder.
