Despite being on holiday, the Spaniard has already been in talks with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, leading to priority positions in the transfer market being discussed. And it seems Maresca is looking first for a goalkeeper, left-back and forward.

The Blues have lacked a focal point up front since Diego Costa left the club in 2017, while neither Djordje Petrovic or Robert Sanchez appears to be a convincing starting goalkeeper for a club with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/team/chelsea/9q0arba2kbnywth8bkxlhgmdr" target="_blank">Chelsea</a>'s ambitions. As for left-back, vice-captain Ben Chilwell has missed a considerable amount of football due to injury.

Maresca's first taste of a managerial role was in charge of Manchester City's Elite Development Squad, which saw him deliver the Premier League 2 title in 2020-21. After a spell with Parma, he rejoined the club as an assistant first-team coach to Pep Guardiola for the 2022-23 treble season.
