Yamal is honouring those countries as the respective birth places of his father and mother. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/lamine-yamal-history-barcelona-wonderkid/blt18c8117e5f546f05" target="_blank">Morocco had hoped to see him pledge allegiance to them</a> at one stage, with president of their FA - Fouzi Lekjaa – saying in 2023: “We conveyed our project to him and his family, but Lamine was already convinced about going to Spain. Spain and Morocco are separated by 14 kilometres, and it is normal for these things to happen.
