'Van Dijk's too big, too strong, too quick' - Deeney reveals 'hate' for Liverpool defender

Watford forward Troy Deeney has confessed that he cannot stand the sight of Liverpool enforcer Virgil van Dijk - and he is not too keen on defensive partner Joe Gomez, either.

Liverpool have raced to the top of the Premier League table in 2018-19, winning six out of six games to date.

And while Jurgen Klopp's men have been overwhelming in attack, a much-improved effort at the back has also helped them occupy the summit.

Both Van Dijk and Gomez have been exceptional in allowing just two goals so far in front of Alisson in goal, and Deeney joked that he is sick of the sight of them.

“I've said it many times, I hate him,” Deeny said to BBC Radio Five Live when asked about the Netherlands international.

“I hate going up against him.

“He's too big, too strong, too quick, too good on the ball, loves fighting, a good head of hair.

“One of those guys that sprays on his top as well, so it smells lovely! When he runs past you, it's like 'I can't catch you, but...'.”

The Hornets star added on Gomez: “I've said for a very long time that I've got a massive respect for Joe Gomez. He could be England's centre-half for the next 15 years.

“He is a beast of a player. And going next to someone like Van Dijk, he is only going to get better.”

Deeney must wait until November 24 for his next chance to tussle with Van Dijk and Gomez, when Watford host the Reds at Vicarage Road.
