WHAT HAPPENED
Over the weekend, the NWSL surpassed two million fans in regular season attendance for the first time in the league's history.
Just a few weeks prior, the NWSL crossed the 1.5 million in attendance mark, highlighting and crediting the growth in fan engagement and packed stadiums.
According to the NWSL, 89 matches have brought in over 10,00 fans. Last year, the league became the first women's league to average more than 10,000 fans per game in a regular season.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
In the final weekend of NWSL play, the Portland Thorns drew in a sellout crowd at Providence Park. The league crossed the historic 2 million mark in the game that honored forward Christine Sinclar. Other clubs have been drawing in massive crowds all season. The San Diego Wave led the league in attendence for the second-straight year with 19,575 fans per game.
