WHAT HAPPENED?

The 30-year-old's severe injury comes as the latest blow for Eddie Howe's team, who recently saw fellow defender <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/huge-blow-newcastle-season-sven-botman-acl-injury-surgery-nine-months/blt31f2fd8e96e9ae7f" target="_blank">Sven Botman ruled out for several months</a> with a cruciate ligament injury of his own. Newcastle will be without both players for the rest of the season and part of the 2024-25 campaign. Furthermore, they were given another headache with midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is already suspended for breaking betting rules, facing <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/sandro-tonali-newcastle-midfielder-charged-by-fa-over-50-further-breaches-of-betting-ruleS/blt839ba5f373c3cc0a" target="_blank">another lengthy ban after being charged with 50 more violations</a>.
