<p>Lampard has been out of work since leaving his interim role with Chelsea at the end of the 2022-23 season. He's kept busy <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/frank-lampard-lands-first-job-chelsea-departure-ex-england-midfielder-ac-milan-legend/bltbe6c1ce051fb9a37" target="_blank">through various punditry roles</a>, but is set to return to the touchline with Championship outfit Coventry.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>According to the <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/11/27/frank-lampard-coventry-city-manager-mark-robins-sacking/" target="_blank"><em>Telegraph</em></a>, the 46-year-old is in advanced talks with the struggling Sky Blues, who are just seven months removed from a magical run to the FA Cup semi-finals. It's been a turbulent ride since that <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/coventry-mark-robins-slams-offside-decision-that-deprived-sky-blues-fa-cup-semi-final-triumph-man-utd/bltbb207a88ee80c1fb" target="_blank">agonising defeat to Manchester United</a>, though, with Mark Robins losing his job on November 7 after winning just four of Coventry's first 14 Championship matches this season.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The club's owner Doug King has faced criticism for his decision to sack the popular Robins, who also guided Coventry to the play-off final in 2022-23. But King has admitted he feared relegation to League One if he didn't act.</p><p>“I cannot have the risk of us getting relegated. Nobody thought Birmingham would get relegated – and they did. The next appointment is very important,” he said recently.</p><p>“You can argue that this was a big mistake [to sack Robins]. But I had to do something. And everybody will make their judgment clear.”</p>

WHAT HAVE COVENTRY SAID?

<p>Lampard has previous experience of managing in the Championship; he led Derby County to the play-off final in 2019 before leaving to join Chelsea.</p>
