Martinez, who was less than impressed with the condition of the playing surface at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, has said of helping Argentina to another win: “We are going to create chances and score goals. I try to help when they come at us once or twice. I have to save for the team. We know that we have a team with tremendous talent. It is a team that fights to the maximum.”

With Argentina up and running at the 2024 Copa America, Messi and Co will return to action next Tuesday when taking on Chile. They are determined to defend their continental title, having claimed it three years ago when the Covid-19 pandemic prevented supporters from taking up seats in the stands.
