The 21-year-old striker has opened up about the time when Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag personally called to convince him to join the Premier League giants from RB Leipzig, but he decided to turn down the more lucrative offer in favour of re-joining Ajax. The Netherlands international moved to RB Leipzig from the Dutch club in 2021 but returned on loan after just six months. At the start of the 2022/23 season, he made his move permanent and rejoined The Sons of God.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Speaking to <a href="https://www.telegraaf.nl/sport/1238581353/brian-brobbey-bij-manchester-united-kon-ik-een-veelvoud-verdienen" target="_blank">Der Telegraaf</a>, the player said, "Erik ten Hag called me and said that at United, my agent would get millions of euros and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary. But our decision was clear: we wanted to go to Ajax. "Manchester United wanted to have me, but I insisted on returning to Ajax. To make that possible, my agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even waived a hefty percentage of the sell-on clause."

WHAT BRIAN BROBBEY SAID

The <a href="https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-transfer-news-2024-31860626" target="_blank">Mirror</a> recently reported that the United boss is looking at options to boost his team's attack in the summer transfer window and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/erik-ten-hag-ajax-man-utd-brian-brobbey-rasmus-hojlund/blt9389478e6ad58948#cs9a0cc3adb6a6d9e5" target="_blank">sees Brobbey as a possible target</a>. The youngster has enjoyed a rich vein of form in the ongoing season, having scored 13 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.

The Red Devils have been linked with several top attacking players including former and current Real Madrid stars Karim Benzema and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/man-utd-plotting-shock-gbp130m-vinicius-junior-transfer-real-madrid-cash-in-fund-kylian-mbappe-deal/blt53693c41dab1fce1" target="_blank">Vinicius Jr</a> respectively, but none of those moves are likely to materialise due to the club's weak financial position.
