Michael Olise's eye-watering Bayern Munich wage revealed ahead of Crystal Palace transfer as reason for Chelsea's hesitance becomes clear

The winger had <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/chelsea-agree-personal-terms-with-michael-olise/blt912196b414fcc822" target="_blank">seemed set on a move across the capital to join Chelsea</a>, but Bayern have <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/chelsea-michael-olise-crystal-palace-bayern-munich-move-harry-kane/bltc0e30d9892b76dae" target="_blank">swooped in to trigger the £55m release clause</a> in the player's contract.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The reason why Bayern were able to gain ground and gazump Chelsea in the market was because of Olise's release clause. The Bavarian giants were able to sneak in ahead of the Blues as the release clause could only be activated by sides playing in the Champions League. Chelsea, on the other hand, were unable to agree a deal with the Eagles and missed out on their man.</p>
