The England international winger severed ties with the Bundesliga giants back in 2021 when securing a £75 million ($95m) transfer to Old Trafford. Things have not played out as planned for the 23-year-old back in his homeland, with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/manchester-united-troublemaker-jadon-sancho-turn-career-around-borussia-dortmund/bltbe1a734b5a645ccc" target="_blank">only 12 goals recorded through 82 appearances</a>.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sancho has been <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/revealed-full-jadon-sancho-exile-details-man-utd-star-forced-lock-academy-dressing-room-food-lunch-box-canteen-ban/blt01f7b2ee560a6ee9" target="_blank">frozen out completely this season</a>, with Erik ten Hag asking questions of his attitude and commitment to the cause, and a January switch has been in the pipeline for some time. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/jadon-sancho-escapes-man-utd-nightmare-borussia-dortmund-return-agreed-75m-winger-germany-loan/blt6bf71eb59c255cab" target="_blank">Dortmund are keen to be reunited with a familiar face</a>, but no agreement has been reached as yet.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Delivering an update on that process, with it initially <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/jadon-sancho-grounded-why-man-utd-loan-return-borussia-dortmund-delayed-private-jet-cancelled-transfer-talks-continue/blta9baaedc1653f419" target="_blank">suggested that Sancho would be back in Germany by now</a>, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told <a href="https://twitter.com/berger_pj/status/1744340911033565544 " target="_blank">Sky Deutschland</a>: “We are in dialogue with Manchester United. We want to bring him to us on loan. That's no secret. But we are not yet ready to announce a result.”

WHAT WATZKE SAID

Dortmund are still discussing what proportion of Sancho’s salary they will need to take on if a loan deal is pushed through, with the out-of-sorts forward reportedly earning £250,000-a-week in England. United are prepared to cover some of that cost in order to get an unwanted asset off their books.
